School History
OUR ROOTS
When it first opened in 1974 as the district's 25th school, Ward was known simply as Ward Elementary. The school was named in honor of Miriam Ward, a Tempe Elementary teacher, secretary, and principal from 1930 to 1970. Although it would close in 1982, this would not be the end of the story for Ward.
NEW BEGINNINGS
In 2004, Ward received new life. The campus was rebuilt and reimagined as Ward Traditional Academy.
